Thank you, Theo.
Especially for the info on the goalies. I knew only of Lankinen of the three you mentioned, as far as ever having watched them play.

The skaters are all good examples of the traits you were emphasizing.

One thing I'm noticing watching the playoffs is the teams are all putting 4 skaters between and below the dots when on defense. That is how you do it.

And that is often how the Blackhawks don't do it. Hawk forwards need to get much better at playing in their own zone (especially giving the defensemen a target for an exit pass).

Totes, bruh.

I'll say this, though.... At a certain point in the development process, I believe JC needs to make lineup decisions (and line assignments) based on this aspect of the game. The Hawks have enough players that it is ok to sit guys who don't commit to the defensive zone. To be fair to JC, this may have been going on this season without him yapping to the press about it to make himself look like the tough guy (which may be a large part of why the players seem to play hard all the time for the guy). But it is time for the forwards - and the team in general - to take a few steps forward on team defense.

Now, back to the brown liquor.....

Has anyone heard complaints from players on other teams about the defensive system they play - a few teams have hybrid version of JC's system?

Has anyone heard a Hawk player complain about the system JC plays? If Bowman and staff didn't like it would Colliton still be here, let alone extended ?

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with a girl who’s ex used to play in this kind of system and hated it…I guess it's pretty hard.

You are funny, You're funny, Your funny.
Flipping tired of hearing about the "system." It's the same thing as giving a "Participation Award." 90% of the game is players not coaches. Coaches make great plans and as soon as the other team does something against the plan it goes out the window and now it's on to the players to react accordingly.

There is always griping about JC system sooner or later on this board. Apparently other teams.who use hybrid system must feel the same way as you and Ogi. Personally I always wondered why the LW Lock system went away. Did Babcock ditch it. I know they played the no defense system in Toronto. They liked the "O" but not the "X: on the diagrams too.

The referees’ calling more obstruction penalties and the league’s virtually eliminating the centerline, which created openings for off-side wingers to cherry-pick, made left wing lock hockey virtually obsolete.

Toronto's system is not "no defense". They are just bad at it. They have a lot of offensive firepower which gets a ton of headlines, and those players are either ineffective or unwilling to commit to playing solid defense. Their D-corps is average at best, their goalie is average at best and most of their forwards are poor at forechecking, back checking, and engaging defensively.

Speaking of getting punched in the face, I'm sad Theo's breakdown of players didn't include face punchers.

Looks like Vancouver (#9 pick) and Ottawa (#10 pick) are open to trading their picks this year. Vancouver wants a power forward (and cap space), and Ottawa wants a legitimate #2 center.

Too bad the Hawks don't have anyone that fits for either team, except the cap space part for Vancouver.

Max Domi to miss the start of the season after surgery. Columbus is looking a little light on centers at the moment.

A possible destination for center/power forward/Dylan Strome?
